During the eighth inning of Monday night’s game against the Los Angeles Dodgers, St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Matt Holliday was taken out of the lineup when he got the most unusual of sports injuries? What happened? Well, a moth flew into his right ear and wouldn’t come out.

“He had a moth fly into his ear, deep in his ear,” manager Tony La Russa said.

The Cardinals’ staff first tried to get the critter out by taking Holliday into a darkened room and shining a light, hoping the moth would go toward it. When that didn’t work, tweezers were used to pluck it out.

Holliday is fine and even took the still-alive moth home with him, but he’s probably wearing a necklace of cedar to keep it from happening again.
