The local food bank has been overwhelmed this year and will need some extra help going into the new year.

The El Pasoans Fighting Hunger Food Bank serves 132 food pantries, charities, and shelters throughout the area and they have really struggled to keep up with all that throughout the COVID 19 pandemic.

Even though things appear to be looking up as far as the pandemic goes, the El Pasoans Fighting Hunger food bank will be struggling well into 2021 and really needs your help now.

Whether via food donations or monetary donations, please help all that you can. In addition to the thousands upon thousands that the food bank typically assists, the job losses and pay cuts many were forced to deal with in 2020 quadrupled the number of people seeking the food bank's help.

In addition to that, some federal funding that the El Pasoans Fighting Hunger food bank receives is due to expire in 2021, cutting their resources even more.

In 2019, the El Pasoans Fighting Hunger food bank distributed 32.5 million pounds of food to families in need and that number is expected to rise to 132 million in 2021.

Right now, they are feeding an average of 6,000 to 8,000 families a day. (El Paso Times)
