Sun Metro Cutting More Bus Routes

Citing low passenger numbers as the reason, the city has announced that several bus routes will soon be discontinued.

Sun Metro passengers are in for another change as the city is about to discontinue some routes throughout the city.  The changes are, for the moment, only temporary and will take effect Sunday. According to KVIA, the following routes will be unavailable for the foreseeable future:

Routes 1 and 11 will be temporarily deactivated due to low or no ridership.

Route 70 will be temporary deactivated until the University of Texas at El Paso resumes in-person classes.

In addition, Sunland Park, NM Route 83 will now be serviced by the South Central Regional Transit District through the City of Sunland Park and Doña Ana County, as the funding previously provided to Sun Metro for the route is set to expire. - KVIA

These are just a few of the route suspensions Sun Metro will be making, you can see more here. These route changes are pretty much all COVID 19 related, (except for the Route 83 one obviously), with passenger numbers dwindling due to the number of businesses, schools, and other places not operating normally or being staffed or attended normally. As the city slowly returns to more customary day to day activities, the daily passenger numbers should return to normal as will the Sun Metro routes and schedules.
