Former Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Steven Nelson has agreed to a two-year, $10 million free-agent deal with the Houston Texans, according to Texans beat writer Brooks Kubena of the Houston Chronicle.

The 29-year-old played for Eagles during the 2021 season, making 50 tackles and picking off one pass, playing opposite from Darius Slay in Jonathan Gannon's defense.

We had discussed Nelson's role in the Eagles defense with Geoff Mosher from Inside The Birds, who suggested Nelson's play was part of the reason the Eagles safeties had to play so deep.  Suggesting that an upgrade was needed at the position.

The cornerback was one of Philadelphia general manager Howie Roseman’s few acquisitions last year. He signed a one-year deal that could have paid him around $4 million, according to reports.

Nelson was the teams starting cornerback, but was viewed as expendable, as the team looks to find a upgrade at the position, most likely through the NFL Draft.

Without Nelson at cornerback, the Eagles have Slay, Avonte Maddox and a plethora of young, inexperienced corners, including Kary Vincent, Zech McPhearson, Josiah Scott, Tay Gowan, Craig James, Jared Mayden and Mac McCain III.
