Should Texas Keep School Uniforms Or Should They Be Gone?
"Should I stay or should I go?"
No I wasn't quoting The Clash. This is a question that some people have asked about school uniforms...are they necessary or should we get rid of them?
Now a school UNIFORM is different from a dress CODE. A school uniform is... well exactly that. The uniform that students are required to wear during school hours at school or any educational facility. While a dress code is: "a set of rules, usually written and posted, specifying the required manner of dress at a school, office, club, restaurant, etc". If you're curious about what Texas's dress code laws are, you can read all the legal text online here.
Now recently one Texas school, Forney ISD, changed THEIR dress code & people were NOT afraid to voice their opinions.
SPOILER ALERT: they weren't happy...
But what about El Paso? According to EPISD, the dress code for El Paso schools is MUCH more acceptable. And when I asked people online, they tend to agree that the El Paso dress code is fine. However when asked about UNIFORMS, the results were spilt:
"I like it, they do have free dress options on some days. And I imagine as a parent it would make getting ready for school/shopping a lot easier!" - Maegan Gonzales
"My school has uniforms but they also have a dress code when the students have free dress. I am for uniforms in the schools." - Marlene Paulus
"School uniforms? No they are like prison cells. Regular clothes but appropriate" - Mariah Bailey
"Dress codes, yes...uniforms, no!" - Mark Hubbartt
So more people are in favor of the dress code, probably because the El Paso school districts actually relaxed on the dress code policies last year. Although with the school uniform shortage we had THIS year, maybe we can slowly make some more changes to doing away with uniforms...
