Goodbye Sun Bowl and hello SAC. The Greater El Paso Football Showcase held it's annual press conference today and the Socorro Activities Complex will be the new host venue of the 29th annual high school football all star game. The 11th annual showcase combine will be held at the SAC on Friday, December 17th from 3:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. and the all star game will be the following day. Kickoff is set for 1:05 p.m.

Rick Hernandez, executive director of the GEPFS also announced that Mark Torres will be replacing JJ Calderon as head coach of the East Team (Red Storm). Torres has been head coach at Pebble Hills since the 2015 season and he also played in the all star game in 2000 as a wide receiver for the Irvin Rockets. In fact, he is the first former player to become a head coach in the GEPFS. Canutillo High School head football coach Scott Brooks is taking over the West Team (Blue Thunder) for his dad, Don who passed away earlier this year.

The fun starts on Sunday, November 28th when both rosters will be selected during the annual all star draft. Then, the players will participate in a mentor day on Saturday, December 4th where they will paired with students from 5th through 8th grade in a number of team building exercises. One week later, El Paso High School's R.R. Jones Stadium will host the quarterback challenge.

The Greater El Paso Football Showcase gave out 1.4 million dollars in scholarships last year to over 22 El Paso athletes.

Tickets for the all star game will be available starting December 1st and they will be priced at $6 in advance and $8 on game day. Tickets can be purchased online.
