The El Paso Chihuahuas ended weeks of speculation when the team announced that former big league catcher Rod Barajas was named the team's new manager. Barajas spent 14 seasons in the Major Leagues and also 1999 as a catcher for the El Paso Diablos. He replaced Jamie Quirk as manager of the Double-A San Antonio Missions last year and is excited about his first Triple-A managerial position.

In addition to Barajas, the Chihuahuas also announced that Morgan Berkhart would join the team as hitting coach and Bronswell Patrick would return to the club as pitching coach. Burkhart has been a coach in the Padres organization since 2013, and has major league experience, playing for the Boston Red Sox from 2000-2001 and the Kansas City Royals in 2003. Patrick will spend his third season as the Padres Triple-A pitching coach and ninth year in the Padres organization overall.
