Is Amazon expanding to Northwest El Paso?

New documents strongly suggest that Amazon is expanding as a project registered under the name AMZL El Paso was filled on July 5, 2021, with the Texas Department of Licensing and Registration.

The new location is at 7850 Paseo Del Norte in Northwest El Paso, near Planet Fitness and Harvest Christian Church. The scope of work is listed as an industrial building used for shipping and receiving packages with a square footage of 181,500 ft. and a cost of $48 million.

Earlier this year, after much speculation, Amazon finally confirmed the rumors that it planned on opening its first fulfillment center in El Paso at Eastlake off I-10.

While Amazon has yet to confirm that they are expanding into west El Paso, we do know that the online behemoth is planning to open smaller mini-fulfillment centers across the country to streamline its same-day delivery services. This new location may very well end up complimenting Amazon’s Eastlake location.

The new Eastlake Amazon location plans to employ over 700 people offering industry-leading minimum wage beginning at $15, including comprehensive benefits such as full medical, vision, and dental insurance and a 401(k) with 50 percent match starting on day one for full-time employees. The company also offers up to 20 weeks of maternal and parental paid leave and innovative benefits such as Leave Share and Ramp Back, which give new parents flexibility with their growing families.

Amazon has also pledged to invest over $700 million to provide upskilling training for 100,000 U.S. employees for in-demand jobs. This training offers employees the career opportunity to engage in programs to move into higher skilled roles across the company’s corporate offices, tech hubs, fulfillment centers, retail stores, and transportation network, or pursue career paths outside of the company.

We won’t have to wait much longer to see if this is indeed a new Amazon location because the project details a start date of September 1, 2021, with a completion date of June 1, 2022, so the cat will be out of the bag soon.
