Local Fighter Misael Ynarritu Wins Gold In Jiu Jitsu Tournament
While El Paso's own Chihuahuas are in the midst of a Championship battle, local fighter Misael Ynarritu came home with a Gold Medal last week.
If you are around 170 pounds, chances are this man will put you to sleep. Jiu Jitsu coach at Gorilla MMA and Red Spider, Ynnaritu defeated all other competitors at Grapplersfest in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Those unfamiliar with the sport, Jiu Jitsu is a Martial Art that emphasizes varying submission moves, chokes and holds. It has returned to prominence in Mixed Martial Arts recently with fighters such as Demien Maia strangling his way to the top of the welterweight division, absorbing less than 13 strikes in his last 4 matches. This is central to Jiu Jitsu as it emphasizes the use of your opponents energy against them.
In addition to wrecking shop in Jiu Jitsu Tournaments, Gorilla MMA and Red Spider coach Ynarritu will be competing in an upcoming boxing match with fighters from the gym. We hope to get a chance to talk to him and the fighters before their competition.
