So far this spring, East Texas has received a good amount of rain. Due to all the rain, there are areas of standing water. Take standing water, combine it with higher temperatures and humidity, and you get a breeding ground for deadly mosquitoes.

The Number One Insect Killer In Texas

The mosquito is the insect that kills the most Texans each year.  I recently received a call from a local pest control provider letting me know that my 'neighbor' had signed up for mosquito control. They said they were going to be in the neighborhood and wanted to know if I was interested.

I declined their offer. So far this year and in previous years, I have not had an issue with mosquitoes at my house. That could change, though, if we get a lot more rain and there's standing water around my neighbors' homes.

Don't Get A Red Welt From A Mosquito Bite

Those blood-sucking pests will soon be swarming across East Texas, looking for their next meal while potentially spreading disease. If you must be outdoors around dawn or dusk when mosquitoes are most active, there are some colors you should wear to help repel those pests.

Ways To Keep The Mosquitoes Away

  • Use an insect repellent recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
  • Wear long-sleeved shirts and pants to limit exposed skin susceptible to bites.
  • Remove areas of standing water, such as dog bowls, bird baths, and garbage cans, as mosquitoes can use these areas to breed.
  • Keep your lawn and gutters clean.
  • Consider contacting a professional pest control service if mosquito populations become difficult to manage.

Keep Those Texas Mosquitoes Away By Wearing One Of These 4 Colors

According to experts, the lighter the color the less likely you are to attract mosquitoes. However, your blood type, sweat, and CO2 (carbon dioxide) output will come into play too.
