El Paso’s only German Pub will be closing their doors after nearly 10 years in business Well, kind of.

A post was recently shared in a local Facebook group which featured photos of a bar that was up for sale.

The post read:

Established Restaurant/ Pub for rent ! High traffic area with ample parking.”

Many locals were quick to recognize the bar that was being sold and they quickly commented with their shock:

Wait German Pub is closed???”

“Awww nooo not German Pub!”

The post didn’t have the name of the bar that was being sold, but when one person asked in the comments section where the location was, the person who shared the post commented:

“9530 Viscount / it the German Pub.”

Confirming that The German Pub was in fact closing their doors after being a staple in the area for nearly 10 years.

Why Are They Closing?

I reached out to the person who shared the post and I also sent a message to The German Pub Facebook page but haven’t received a response.

However, after doing some creeping in the comments section I found a reply from the person who shared the original post which stating the reason behind the pub closing their doors:

“We’ve survived 10 years through a pandemic and inflation. We’re exhausted! Trying to give someone a start! When I started nobody helped me one bit ..prayers , hard work , long hours and determination! I/we survived.”

So What Now:

I decided to stop by the German Pub, which is located at 9530 Viscount, to see if I could find someone at the location but I was unlucky, however, when I stopped by I saw something written on the front door that made me question if the pub would be gone for good, or if changes were just coming.

The window read, “See you soon!!”

Whoa. You can’t tell a Latina woman "see you soon" without letting her know when soon is!

After some snooping through the German Pub’s Facebook page they shared a photo of the front window, but with a slightly different message on the door that read, “Stay Tuned!! More to come!

The post was accompanied with the caption, “THE PUB WILL LIVE ON!”

Locals shared their mixed emotions in the comments section of the post:

Loved the schnitzel. I hope they reopen. Great place and service.”

What the heck is going on ? I need my Schmitz and my beer.”

“I hope the pub comes back soon! I need my curry wurst!”

According to Tripadvisor.com, The German Pub first opened 50 years ago at it’s original location on Ft. Bliss. It was originally named “German Club,” but when it moved to east El Paso in 2014, the name changed to “The German Pub."

The German Pub was the only place that broadcasted the German Soccer league (Bundesliga) live in El Paso and had the largest German beer selection which included 5 beers on draft.

Locals were sad to read that the pub would be closing its doors, but from the looks of it, the location may not be gone forever!

Will it be taken over by a new owner? Possibly. Will it still be a German Pub?! That’s the question that remains.

The German Pub
