The family of Zelene Blancas is making public the viewing of her funeral on Facebook this Friday.

Back in 2018, Zelene Blancas, a bilingual teacher at Dr. Sue A. Shook Elementary School, gained national attention after her video went viral; of her first-graders giving each other hugs, high fives, and fist bumps.

Blancas, who was known for her inspirational take on life and never-ending kindness, sadly died after a two-month battle with COVID-19 on December 28, 2020.

According to a GoFundMe page that was set up by her family to help cover her medical bills, Zelene Blancas tested positive for COVID 19 on October 20 and four days later was to be hospitalized.

Blancas' GoFundMe page is no longer active but did manage to raise $33,226 towards her medical bills and was recently updated, sharing the tragic news of Zelene’s passing and thanking everyone for their donations and prayers saying,

"Zelene Blancas entered into eternal rest on Monday, December 28, 2020, at the age of 35. She was a loving daughter, sister, aunt, friend, teacher, and will be greatly missed. Zelene is survived by her loving parents; Victor A. Blancas and Gloria Luna, and brother; Mario G. Blancas. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 08, 2021, from 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM, with a Funeral Service at 11:30 AM at Sunset Funeral Home-West, 480 N. Resler Dr. Interment will be held at Evergreen East Cemetery. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home-West."
