Whomever used to run the Twitter account for the El Paso region of US Customs and Border Protection decided to let their views cloud their judgement this past Saturday.

The Twitter account for the CBP West Texas Region had apparently liked a tweet that used a homophobic slur when mentioning US Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.

Now, the best way to criticize someone's political ideology is to name-call based on their sexuality, as we all know (sarcasm). I already feel some animosity toward people who resort to low-blow homophobia to talk about people they disagree with, but if you're doing this kind of stuff on your private account for example, whatever.

What I don't get is why you would like this kind of stuff on the official Customs and Border Protection account? I mean, how dumb do you have to be? I guess you're already dumb enough to resort to name-calling when it comes to dealing with people you aren't willing to even try to understand, so it checks out.

What were the tweets in question? Here they are:

Was this worth getting the entire official account for US CBP taken down? Was it that funny? I hope it was.

The Texas Tribune reports that the account was run by multiple employees, and it's unknown who was using the account when they liked these tweets. We don't even know if they're based in El Paso.

At least CBP Commissioner Chris Magnus publicly condemned the tweets. It doesn't help ease my mind that government enforcement agencies are rotten to the core. This is further proof of it, but I suppose I'll take what I can get.
