Bravos de FC Juarez played through the thunderstorm that hit the Borderland and came out victorious against UAEM, defeating the Potros 2-0 on Saturday night.  A game that was dominated by the team from the Borderland for all 90 minutes gave the fans at Benito Juarez Olympic Stadium plenty to cheer about despite an hour delay at halftime because of the rainstorm.

The scoring line opened when Bravos forward Leandro Carrijo scored in the 25th minute from inside the 6-yard goal box when David Castro broke down the right flank and laid the ball off to Carrijo so he could fire from point blank range.  This first goal was well deserved by FC Juarez as they were starting to dominate since practically the opening minute of the match.

Bravos started the second half were they left off in the first, and stuck almost immediately.  The second goal came in the 47th minute when Bravos midfielder Elson Diaz broke past the Potros defensive line take on the opposing goalkeeper 1 on 1 and get the ball past him.

This match was a 2-0 that could have very easily been a 3 or 4-0 result.  This victory was over a UAEM team that new to the league (they were promoted in Ascenso MX last spring) and has been doing things quite well after 7 games they find themselves in 4th place.

The victory gives FC Juarez 8 points on the season as a result of 2 wins, 2 losses, and 3 ties.  This is good enough for 8th place in the general standings just one point out of the 7th and final playoff spot.

After the game Bravos head coach Sergio Orduna was happy with the result.  He commented, “I feel that tonight our team demonstrated what it is capable of against a dangerous dynamic opponent, but I think we knew how to match up with them in order to be superior.  I think we could have put the ball in the back of the net at least a couple of more times, but at the end of the day we need to familiarize ourselves once again with winning and I think with did just that in a very good way.”

Up next for FC Juarez will be and away match next Friday match against Coras FC at 8:30 p.m. MST.  The match will be nationally televised on Gol TV here in the United States.
