El Paso Independent School District is hoping to keep the community as informed as they can. They have created a COVID-19 dashboard website, which you can go to by CLICKING HERE.

What exactly can you find there? Juan E. Carbera said:

Parents and employees have the right to know as much information as possible about the impact of the pandemic on our schools, and the dashboard EPISD has created gives extensive data that will let parents make informed decisions about sending their students to our schools. EPISD has prioritized transparency during our community this unprecedented pandemic and this dashboard furthers our commitment to keep our community informed in a timely manner.

What sort on info do they have there? You have information like:

  • Total EPISD staff cases
  • Total EPISD student cases
  • Total positive COVID-19 cases for El Paso, including the positivity rate, which at the time I'm writing this is at 10.14%

That last number is the one EPISD has been using to decide when to open schools. We needed to see that number get down to 5%  or lower for two straight weeks. We were only able to get it there for 5 days in a row, then it went back up. This caused one of the EPISD face-to-face schooling postponements.

The EPISD dashboard also includes a map with the locations of the outbreaks in the city, so you can see where most of the cases are popping up. I know I've said this before, but apparently I need to say it again, just do the simple things we need to do to get a handle on this:

  • Keep social distancing (6 feet apart)
  • Wash your hands
  • Wear a mask
