Pull out the hoodies and UGG boots and keep them at the ready. After weeks of above normal, record-setting highs, cooler temperatures are heading our way.

I watch a lot of local news, and all the TV weather folks are saying two cold fronts will hit our area; one at the end of this week and another at the beginning of next week. Of course, real El Pasoans know "cold front" doesn't necessarily mean bundle up in a heavy jacket, as will be the case with the first one to arrive.

Cold front number one will hit our area on Friday. This one will be what they refer to as 'a weak cold front,' cooling us down only slightly to near normal temperatures, which this time of the year should be afternoon highs in the mid-80s.

Noticeable cooling will finally take place Monday, October 26, with the arrival of the second front. Monday's front will usher in a real taste of fall. That one is expected to be accompanied by a blast of colder arctic air and wind gusts around 35 m.p.h. on Sunday and Monday.

Highs will fall from the mid-80s over the weekend to the upper 70s on Monday to upper 50s on Tuesday. The overnight low temperatures will dip into the upper 30s and low 40s, according to forecasters. And, unlike the last cold front that swooped in, this time the weather peeps say the caldo slurpping temps will stick around through at least Thursday.

Woo-hoo, I can't wait to swap out my pandemic sweatpants for my fall sweatpants!
