First, I know “winterier” isn’t a word.  Secondly, I freely acknowledge this could just be my imagination.

That’s why I’m asking:  IS it just me? Does anyone else feel like we’ve had more of a “winter” this year?

I’m not talking about a huge, white-out blizzard. It’s been a long time, but we’ve definitely had those before. I’m not even talking about snow days, per se.  EPISD HAD a “snow day” but it never snowed.

Kids just got the day off to play Minecraft, I guess.  Even in years where we’ve had a significant winter storm, it’s usually near 80 within a day or two and, before you know it, Spring has arrived and you’ve completely forgotten that Winter ever happened.

I’m not saying this year is more frigid than other years. No, what I’m talking about is what I call OTTSWD’s: Other Than Tshirt Weather Days.  We’ve had a long string of those.

I know they track all this stuff and I could probably go online and find all kinds of data to either support or disprove my premise. But that would involve “research”, which is difficult and time-consuming. It’s much easier for me to cite my OWN research.

For instance, did you know…

-- In a typical January/February in El Paso, I average 8 to 10 rounds of golf. This year, I’ve only played ONCE.

--This year, I’ve averaged 3 nights per week of burning wood in my fireplace. That’s fully THREE times my personal average in previous years

-- In a typical El Paso winter I wear 6 of the 10 sweaters I own. This year, I’ve worn all ten AND a couple more than once. And, we’re only halfway through February.

-- I normally go through 3 boxes of Kleenex from Christmas through Valentine’s Day. My tally for the same period THIS year: 5 boxes. And, before you even ask, NO, I’m not going through more Kleenex this year because I’m single.

Statistics don’t lie, people. And, clearly, the statistics here prove that this is the winteriest El Paso winter in history.
