Delta Variant Confirmed in EP, Mayor Begs You to Get Vaccinated
The first three cases of the delta variant of COVID-19 are officially here in El Paso, Texas, as reported by city officials in a press release.
It should be no surprise since it has been reported in other areas of Texas weeks ago, but El Paso didn't have the proper testing for it in-house. Officials have been shipping out random samples of positive COVID-19 tests out of our area, so it was a matter of time till it was officially detected in EL Paso.
County Judge Ricardo Samaniego and El Paso Mayor Oscar Leeser held a press conference on July 30th, 2021 to announce the first three cases of positive Delta Variant COVID-19 tests. Those who tested positive were one woman in her 20s and one woman in her 40s and one in her 60s.
According to Judge Samaniego and Oscar Leeser, we will "not be going backwards" as in closing up businesses or mandates but are hoping the community will be looking after each other.
Mayor Leeser stressed multiple times throughout the press conference to the younger community to get vaccinated. County Judge Samaniego continues to ask our wise elderly community to speak to their grandchildren to convince them to get the vaccine.
In my case, I had to fight my Grandma to take the vaccine, so not so sure if that message is the best.
The science is out there about just how severe the Delta Variant is and El Pasoans need to take this announcement seriously. We saw how hard COVID-19 originally hit our area and people plead for help. We must help ourselves. We must get vaccinated and wear our masks when needed. This isn't political. This is life or death.
