When the Thunderbirds and Rams face each other every year, it is safe to expect an offensive display by both teams that comes down to the wire.

This was far from the case as Coronado defeated their 1-6A rivals 17-7 at Quarles Thunderbird Stadium on Friday night.  The game was a defensive battle throughout as Coronado who had scored a whopping 26 touchdowns through the first six games of the season was held to a single field goal in the first half.  Both squads stepped up defensively as the two teams combined for only six first downs in the first half.

Leading by a narrow score of 3-0 over Montwood the T-Birds came out in the second half with a sense of urgency when WR/RB Zachary Foght scored on a 19 yard rushing touchdown at the 10:14 mark of the 3rd quarter.  A few minutes later the T-Birds sealed the victory when quarterback Christian Monzon threw an 80 yard touchdown pass to Brannon Bogan.  Bogan was the X factor for Coronado as he finished with 6 catches for 138 yards and a TD.

Coronado's relentless pressure forced Montwood into committing five turnovers, including four interceptions by quarterback Gio Cisneros.  Senior cornerback Adrian Martinez had a stellar performance as he had two crucial interceptions for the T-Birds.  Coronado improves to 4-3, 2-1 in 1-6A with the win.  They will travel to play Socorro at the SAC next Friday.  With the loss Montwood remains winless at 0-6, 0-3 in District1-6A, and will host El Dorado next Friday.
