Despite a controversial stoppage in the 10th round, Canelo Alvarez looked dominant against Alfredo Angulo last night in Las Vegas. Canelo (43-1-1, 31 KOs) controlled the action early and Angulo (22-4, 18 KOs) was not able to connect on many of his power punches. The two fighters did exchange some heavy punches in the 8th round, much to the delight of the 14,610 fans at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. At 0:47 of the 10th round, Alvarez delivered a crushing uppercut to Angulo's chin and referee Tony Weeks stepped in to halt the fight. Canelo had landed 197 out of 309 power punches (64%) while Angulo connected on just 78 of 377 power punches (21%). Two of the three judges at ringside had the fight scored 89-82 for Alvarez and the third judge had Canelo in front 88-83.
