Last year, the Miners played the Houston Cougars three times and they lost, 3 times.

This year however, is a different story to say the least.

Sunday afternoon at The Don Haskins Center, in front of 2977 very loud and loyal fans, the Miners produced what you might consider a very big statement by whipping Houston 87-43 and improve to 6-0 in C-USA and 17-2 overall.

There is really not much to do but brag about this performance.

As a team, shot 45.2% from the field, 37.5% from beyond the arc, grabbed 16 offensive rebounds and 37 defensive, 25 assists, 5 blocks and 7 steals.

One of the most amazing stats of the afternoon, the Miners committed only 9 turnovers while scoring the 87 points.

The only bad thing you can say, and it seems I always do, is they went 12-20 from the line. Now I understand that is 60% but if they end up on the short end one night, I personally do not want it to be because they didn't make their free throws.

Houston has a great player in Roxana Button. She can really fill it up and if not for her effort and 20 points, it would have been an even longer afternoon for the Cougars.

The Miners hit the road again this Thursday and head to Hattiesburg, Mississippi to take on the Golden Eagles of Southern Miss, who lost to Houston 56-49 on January 8th.

Translation: a long, long night for the Golden Eagles.
