For the first time in the Scotty Walden era, the UTEP football team will get a chance to compete in front of fans for their annual spring game on Saturday, April 20th, with a 10 AM kick off in the Sun Bowl.

Tickets are just $5 and the athletic department will be hosting a special "garage sale" after the game. Simply put, this will be known as the largest sale of team-issued, sideline apparel that we've seen.

600 ESPN El Paso will be airing the Spring Game starting at 9:45 AM with a pregame show, featuring "Voice of the Miners" Jon Teicher, Cole Freytag and Mando Medina. After the game, we will have a special edition of MinerTalk live at The District Pub & Kitchen (3233 N. Mesa). Listen to coach Walden's appearance earlier this week on the show:

"We want to hit the 2K, three thousand mark with the turnout for the Sun Bowl," head coach Scotty Walden said during Monday's appearance on SportsTalk. "

The spring game will feature two teams— selected by the "general managers" of the game in Director of Athletics Jim Senter and President Heather Wilson—facing each other in a four quarter, full game format. The first half will operate like a regular game and the second half will feature a running clock.

The two honorary coaches in the spring game will be UTEP legends Quintin Demps and Will Hernandez. The football program will have 20-plus other alumni returning to the university to coach in the spring game.

Head coach Scotty Walden on the team so far:

"I always think the defense is a little further ahead at this point. I think for offense, it's a whole new approach to the game. I think guys are realizing that we are serious. We're going to be aggressive; we're going to snap the ball every 12 seconds; we're going to throw shots; we're not going to be conservative."
