As the Texas State Playoffs move into the Quarterfinals one El Paso-area team still stands tall.  While only one of the three area teams advanced, all three schools played tough.

Canutillo used their extremely strong defense to hold off Azle on several occasions to hold on for the 17-10 victory and advance to the Quarterfinals of the 5A Division II state playoffs.  Quarterback Javier Gomez, Andrew Alarcon and Ben Galaviz combined for 216 rushing yards and 15 first downs.

Del Valle kicked off the El Paso teams' Regional Round action against top-ranked Aledo.  After trailing 23-6 at halftime, Del Valle scored early in the third quarter to make it 23-14.  The Conquistadores then drove all the way to the Bearcats' nine yard line before the drive stalled.  Aledo then scored two more times before Del Valle scored once more to end the game with the 37-21 Bearcats' win.  Steven Montes had 251 passing yards and two touchdowns in the loss.  Montes also scored a rushing touchdown to account for all the Conquistadores' scores.  Del Valled finished 2014 with an 11-2 record.

Eastlake led Everman 20-10 through three quarters, then the Bulldogs scored three fourth quarter touchdowns to pull away with a 31-20 win.  Everman was led by Kierre Crossley's 393 rushing yards on 32 carries and three touchdowns.  The Falcons ended 2014 with a 9-4 record.

The Canutillo Eagles next take on the Everman Bulldogs on Saturday, December 6, at 3 pm from Midland's Grande Communications Stadium in the Quarterfinals round.  We will again update you on the results of the match-up next week.
