FRIDAY:

Live Horse Racing – The live horse racing season continues at Sunland Park Racetrack & Casino. Post time is 12:55 p.m. Free general admission and parking. More Details

Friday at the Fire – Enjoy an evening of live music set against the ambiance of the Freedom Crossing outdoor fireplace. Tonight, Mark Monroe 6- 11 p.m. at Freedom Crossing at Fort Bliss, 1611 Haan Road. FREE.

UTEP’s Get Reel Film Series – Get Reel (previously Cinema Novo) presents independent and educational films as well as blockbuster movies for as little as $1. Tonight’s movie is The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. 7 p.m., UTEP Union Cinema, 500 W. University. Admission is $1 – $2. More Details

Shakespeare on the Rocks – The 25th anniversary season gets underway with a performance of the Shakespeare comedy “Merry Wives of Windsor”. 7 p.m. at the Chamizal National Memorial, 800 S. San Marcial. Ticket prices vary. More Details

El Paso Rhinos Hockey – El Paso’s Junior League ice hockey team hosts the Fort Worth Jr Brahmas in the best of three Division Finals. 7:30 p.m. at the Sierra Providence Events Center, next to the Coliseum, 4100 E. Paisano. Ticket prices vary. More Details

Felipe Esparza – Comedian Felipe Esparza, best known for winning Last Comic Standing, his wild hair, and his catch phrase, “What‘s up fool?“ Showtimes are 8:30 p.m. and 10:45 p.m at El Paso Comic Strip, 1201 Airway. Admission $15. More Details

SATURDAY:

Winter Market at Ardovino’s Desert Crossing – The “producers only” market features area farmers, backyard gardeners and artisans selling organic and pesticide-free vegetables, locally-made goat cheeses, natural free range chickens and eggs, native plants for home and yard, fresh-baked breads and salsas. 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. (575) 589-0653, ext. 3

Downtown Artist and Farmers Market – The market offers the chance to shop for original arts and crafts and regionally grown produce in an outdoor setting while enjoying entertainment featuring local artists, food vendors and free activities for the entire family. 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Union Plaza District (near The Garden Restaurant) along Anthony Street. Ice Skating – Whoosh around on ice skates in the area’s largest public ice skating rink. 12 noon to 3 p.m. in the Sierra Providence Event Center, 4100 E Paisano, behind the El Paso County Coliseum. Cost: $8, $6 Military. Admission includes skate rental. More Details

Sunland Derby – official Kentucky Derby prep race for three-year-olds is the highlight of the live horse racing season at Sunland Park Racetrack & Casino. Other notable races include the $200,000 WinStar Sunland Park Oaks for fillies and the $150,000 Riley Allison Futurity for 2-year-olds. Post time is 12:55 p.m. Free general admission and parking.
