Las Vegas 21 Chihuahuas 9 - Tuesday

WP: Eveland (2-0)

LP: Mejia (0-1)

S: None

Time: 3:25

The El Paso Chihuahuas tied a Pacific Coast League record Tuesday afternoon by using nine different pitchers in their 21-9 loss to the Las Vegas 51s at Cashman Field. Las Vegas scored at least one run in its first seven innings and fell two runs shy of tying the team record for runs in one game.

El Paso starter Ruben Mejia pitched one-third of an inning and allowed seven runs, all earned, in his Triple-A debut. Las Vegas had four players with three hits or more and two players with five RBIs each in the game. El Paso’s Brooks Conrad went 4-for-5 with two home runs and three RBIs in the loss. It was the second multi-homer game by a Chihuahuas player in the last five games, after Daniel Robertson accomplished the feat on April 19th at Albuquerque.

The only other times a team used nine pitchers in one game in the PCL’s 111-year history were April 19, 1964 (Hawaii Islanders) and May 5, 2006 (New Orleans Zephyrs). Jeff Francoeur pitched a scoreless eighth inning, the third time this season El Paso has used a position player on the mound.

Brooks Conrad hit one of his two home runs.

The second pinch hit home run of the year came from Jason Lane.

The Chihuahuas have their first off-day of the season on Wednesday.
