Steve Kaplowitz

Steve Kaplowitz, originally from New York, moved to El Paso in 1978. After graduating from Coronado High School and receiving his bachelor’s of arts in broadcast journalism from the University of Texas in 1995, he returned to El Paso to pursue a career in radio. In 1996, Steve began hosting a weekend sports talk show on KROD 600. One year later, he took over as the station’s Program Director and moved into weekday afternoon timeslot as the host of Sportstalk. In 2007, Kaplowitz was the television play-by-play voice for NMSU football and basketball, and he has also served as play-by-play announcer and analyst for the UTEP Miners women’s basketball team, the El Paso Buzzards Hockey Club and the High School Football Game of the Week. Steve has worked as both a reporter and weekend anchor at KDBC-TV (CBS) and KTSM-TV (NBC) and currently co-hosts Time Warner’s coverage of UTEP sports on the Texas Channel with Duke Keith. Kaplowitz and his wife Karen reside in West El Paso.

UTEP’s “80′s Night” Is Missing Paul Strelzin

As a longtime fan and host of Sportstalk, I am baffled why UTEP never approached Paul Strelzin about returning to the Don Haskins Center. Even if it was for just one game, the Strelz deserves an opportunity to get behind the microphone and shout out “Minerball”.

Taste of El Paso Preview – Ardovino’s Desert Crossing [PHOTOS]

One of the exciting things about next month's Taste of El Paso is that we get to sample some of the delicious offerings before the 2-day event on November 14th and 15th. Chad, Lauren, and I headed over to Ardovino's Desert Crossing late last week to get a sneak preview at one of El Paso's most well known Italian Restaurants.

Wyoming Head Coach Suspended 1-Week For Outburst [NSFW VIDEO]

Thanks to some amateur video shot last week in Laramie, Wyoming, we know how Dave Christensen interacts with opposing coaches. This verbal exchange was shot following the October 13th loss to Air Force. Christensen, head coach of the Wyoming Cowboys, was apparently enraged by an Air Force player who deliberately faked an injury near the end of the game to avoid having to take a time out.

This Week’s NFL You Pick ‘Em Winner Is….Steve Kaplowitz

Ever since our radio station began the "You Pick 'Em" promotion, station employees have always been encouraged to play. In years past, I never took the contest too seriously and picked most NFL games in about two minutes without much thought. This season, I decided to change my philosophy and play to win.
