Americas & Chapin Advance in the Texas State Playoffs

A pair of El Paso high school basketball teams are still alive and have advanced to the Sweet 16 of the Texas State basketball playoffs following their respective wins over the weekend.

The Chapin Huskies will face Mansfield Summit in the Class 5A ranks, while Americas squares off against Dallas Jesuit representing Class 6A. Both games will take place on Tuesday evening at neutral sites.

Chapin 76 - Ysleta 41

The Huskies (21-1) got past the Indians with ease on Saturday in the regional quarterfinals. Chapin, who is ranked as the top team in the city and the 19th overall squad by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches, never trailed against Ysleta, beating them 76-41 in Fabens.

Mansfield Summit (23-4) enters Tuesday's contest with back-to-back wins against Grapevine (61-45) and Mansfield Legacy (67-55). Tipoff will be set at 3:30 MT at Andrews High School.

On Monday, Chapin sophomore KJ Lewis received his first offer from the Blue Bloods. He is a top-25 player across the country, per ESPN's top 25 player rankings in the Class of 2023.

Americas 48 - Frenship 41

For the first time under head coach Mike Brooks, the Americas Trailblazers will journey to the Class 6A regional semifinals. They knocked off Wolfforth Frenship (48-41) in the regional quarterfinals at Andrews High School and will now face Dallas Jesuit in Santon, TX, on Tuesday. In the win against Frenship, Americas was propelled by junior forward Damian Vicente, who tallied 16 points in their area round win against Euless Trinity.

The Trailblazers are the No. 15 ranked team in the state by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches going into their Tuesday night playoff game. Dallas Jesuit (20-6), on the other hand, defeated Richardson Lake Highlands (55-46) to reach the regional semifinals. Tipoff is set for 5 p.m.
