Just when the Ysleta Independent School District graduating class could almost celebrate their big accomplishment, the City of El Paso has crushed their dreams. Now, dreams have to be crushed as a precaution so it should be understandable.

According to a Facebook post by YISD, due to the new guidelines set by the City of El Paso, it is best for the community to cancel the planned stadium graduation ceremony.

I understand the frustration of many graduates but you also must consider the high risk it is to our community. As El Paso continues to see a rise in cases, now in the 300s for two days, we must not push large social gatherings.

For a day you get to celebrate, but honestly, think about how what could happen in the days to come after this type of celebration. El Pasoans continue to gather during holidays and are numbers just keep growing along with them.

For now, 2020 graduates must live with this new normal and look towards the future of the virtual college, trade school, or whatever they plan to do. In my personal opinion, your life has just started and this type of ceremony may be special now but you have so much more to live for. In order to live for it, with your loved one, take the proper precautions NOW!

YISD does want to remind the community about viewing the hybrid graduations, which took place earlier online, anytime on their YouTube channel. They hope that graduation gives their students the rite of passage they so desperately deserved.
