If you’ve traveled west on I-10 and looked to your left just past Executive Center maybe you've noticed the water slide that's under construction.

And maybe you've wondered if it's the beginning of another city water park.

The short answer is no, it’s not. Four is all we're getting so the west side will remain without.

That particular water slide is part of an "Aquatic Resort" being built in Motecillo, the mixed-use development off North Mesa where Top Golf and iFly are located.

When the resort was first made public in August 2020, the project was going to consist of an event center that could be used for a variety of functions, restaurants, fitness facility, and a water park with water slide, splash pad, lazy river, and pool with a bar and private lounge areas.

A “Marriot-brand hotel” was also touted as being in the mix. Or at least that was the plan last year when a splashy video and architectural renderings of the project were posted on their social media.

Back then it was being referred to as The Resort at Montecillo, and word was only apartment dwellers and homeowners who lived on the property would have access to all the cool sounding facilities.

I wish I could tell you where things stood now, but they haven't replied to any of my numerous inquiries and requests for an update.

What I can say with a fair amount of confidence is that a water park and some kind of venue is definitely happening, and they plan to sell alcohol.
