Coach Rob Chudzinski announced his decision on Monday, ending weeks of speculation about whether Weeden would start the season opener against Miami on Sept. 8. Chudzinski said Weeden has earned the job with a strong offseason, training camp and preseason. Weeden started 15 games as a rookie last year, but Chudzinski and the Browns' new coaching staff wanted to see improvement from the 29-year-old — and they have.

Chudzinski has been pleased with everything Weeden has shown and said the QB has the team's full support.

Weeden was pushed in camp by veteran Jason Campbell. In two preseason games, Weeden has completed 18 of 25 passes for 229 yards and three touchdowns.
