The UTEP Miners might be getting a new rival(s) in the near future.  UTSA has decided it want to be a player in college athletics.

They started playing D-I football (FCS) in 2011, and were on the fast track to join the WAC.  That move was scheduled for July 1st, 2012.  Perhaps seeing the demise of the WAC, UTSA started to get buyers remorse.

In March, 2012 C-USA officials reportedly approached UTSA about joining the league in 2013.  The University of Texas System Board of Regents has scheduled a vote on the move for Wednesday.

If approved, the school will incur no exit fee for leaving the WAC because they were never officially members.  However, UTSA will have to pay an entrance fee of $2 million to C-USA.

College football insider Brett McMurphy reports that C-USA is looking to add Florida International and North Texas from the Sun Belt and Louisiana Tech from the WAC to offset the losses of Memphis, UCF, Houston, and SMU to the Big East.

As is always the case in the ever fluid world of conference realignment, we will have to..........wait and see!
