The UTEP Miners moved to 3-1 in C-USA play with a 63-54 victory over SMU and their hall of fame coach Larry Brown.  It was the 10th straight time that the Mustangs have lost in El Paso.

The Miners played well in the first half and were able to build a 14 point lead by halftime.  Jacques Streeter had a stellar game, scoring 18 points, which is the most he has tallied as a member of the Miners. Streeter had a remarkable first half of play by going 5 for 5 from downtown.

UTEP also had solid performances by Konnor Tucker with 12 points, Cedrick Lang scored 9 points, and Chris Washburn contributed with 8 points.  A couple of reasons why the Miners were able to get this victory were becasue of their 47.2 percent shooting from the field, and  they shot 70 percent from 3 point range.

The Miners will play their next two games on the road at East Carolina next Saturday, and at UAB on January 30.  Thus far UTEP is playing really well in conference play, their one blemish was a 45-42 loss at Tulsa last Wednesday.

Following the game Coach Floyd was asked if he was pleased with the Miners improved offensive performance against SMU, he mentioned,

The next two games will be a significant test for the Miners, they have not played well on the road this season.  Without question, winning on the road is an essential part of obtaining success in this game.
