Although the UTEP starting quarterback job remains wide open, junior transfer Zack Greenlee might have the inside track to winning the competition. The former Fresno State Bulldog went 7-7 yesterday during the Miners' second scrimmage and led the team with 82 passing yards and a touchdown. As good as Greenlee looked, he was not the only UTEP quarterback to shine. Kavika Johnson completed 8 out of 10 passes for 71 yards and a touchdown and Ryan Metz also threw for a score. The offense did not commit a single turnover during the scrimmage.

"I thought (the scrimmage) went really well," head coach Sean Kugler said afterwards. "I thought all three quarterbacks in the move-the-ball segment did a great job and led the team for touchdowns. It was a good bounce-back segment for the offense."

If the Miners are looking for Aaron Jones' backup running back, freshmen Kevin Dove (10 carries for 63 yards) and Quadraiz Wadley (8 carries for 62 yards) are two names to keep an eye on. Both backs have had strong camps so far, and they should lighten the load for Jones this season. Orion Prescott, who redshirted last season after transferring from junior college, also scored twice for the Miners.

UTEP returned home from Ruidoso last night, and the team had the day off until they resume practice tomorrow morning at Glory Field.
