For many basketball fans, the 2011-12 UTEP Men's Basketball team will be unlike any other team they have seen. Head Coach Tim Floyd will field a group that will be completely different from the teams fans have been used to cheering for the last few seasons. As many as 10 new players will be part of the roster for next season's squad, including Tim Jacobs. The Las Cruces Onate star was named the New Mexico 5-A player of the year, but did not receive any Division 1 scholarship offers. However, Floyd offered Jacobs an academic scholarship to UTEP along with a chance to join the team as a preferred walk-on. Teddy Feinberg from the Las Cruces Sun News has more details on the Miners' newest addition. I like the addition a lot, because you can never have enough quality point guards. Despite not possessing the size or athleticism that many top prospects have, Jacobs sounds like the type of player that could thrive in a Tim Floyd system.
