UTEP faced Northwestern State on Saturday night with a depleted roster as second leading scorer Omega Harris was suspended for one game for missing class, and Terry Winn was absent as well, as he transferred earlier this past week to UT Rio Grande Valley.  The Demons won the game with relative ease 79-67, dropping the Miners' record to 2-4 on this young season.

Both Jake Flaggert and Trey Touchet established career highs by scoring 14 and 13 points, while Dominic Artis had a near triple-double with 16 points, nine boards and seven assists.  The Miners also had to play the majority of the game without often injured Matt Willms, who left the contest with a broken nose after tallying 8 points.

Northwestern State shot the lights out from downtown by making a season high 12 three-pointers, including nine in the first half, and shot 50.9 percent for the game.  The Miners shot 42.9 percent from the field, but were dismal from the charity stripe by making 11 of 21 attempts for a 52.4 percent free throw percentage for the game.

UTEP's schedule will not get any easier as they will travel to New Mexico next Wednesday, and then host I-10 rivals NMSU on December 13.  Thus far the team has shown signs of their inexperience and youth, and without question, it will be a challenging road ahead for this squad.
