UTEP Football Turning Back The Clock Against New Mexico
It has been 54 years since the last time UTEP football won a bowl game. On Saturday night, the Miners will be traveling back in time to their Texas Western College days, complete with a throwback jersey and helmet.
The team will wear an all orange helmet with a white stripe down the middle. The helmet will not have any numbers or decal stickers on it, but they will wear a small TWC on the back left of each helmet. The look will be similar to what the Miners wore in 1965 and 1966.
As for their jerseys, the "team orange" Nike look will have Texas Western in block letters across the chest with a TWC just below the collar. Unlike the current jerseys where the numbers are sewn, these throwback uniforms have the mesh style digits the same way players wore them years ago. The back of the jersey will have numbers but no names. As for the pants, they will be white with an orange stripe down each side.
The Texas Western throwback is now the fourth jersey and helmet design that UTEP has for their football team. They also have the current bright ceramic orange, white, and navy blue sets that they mix and match.
The jerseys will not be the only throwback to TWC that UTEP is arranging for Saturday night's game. They will also have various Miner legends returning to the Sun Bowl to take part in the festivities. In addition, the rock band Vertical Horizon will be performing before the game as part of the Speaking Rock Pregame Party, which gets under way at 4 p.m. in the North Sun Bowl Parking lot.
