A major life experience has presented itself to the UTEP Dance and Cheer teams: the opportunity to represent the university and the city of El Paso in front of the tens of thousands of people who line the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade parade route in New York City and the hundreds of thousands who watch the popular holiday parade on TV.

And they couldn't be more excited as it's both a big deal and a first for a Miners dance and cheer squad.

Big Apple or Bust

It won't be all work and no play when they get there. Hey, it's New York City, after all. When they get to The City That Never Sleeps it sounds like they won’t either.

This once-in-a-lifetime experience for most of them will include sightseeing and activities like attending the “Christmas Spectacular” starring the iconic Rockettes at the legendary Radio City Music Hall.

The teams will also perform for the high school cheer and dance participants, parents, and others the day before and the day of the parade in their UTEP uniforms.

They won’t be sporting the orange and blue during the parade, however, as they’ll be required to wear Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade uniforms, but they will be introduced and identified as being from the University of Texas at El Paso.

The 2021 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade will be a return to its traditional route and the public will be allowed to watch in person. It airs nationwide on NBC-TV, Thursday, November 25, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. to noon in all time zones.
