UAB Cancels Next Friday’s Football Game with UTEP Due to COVID
So much for the Midland Miners. This afternoon, UAB announced that their game with UTEP scheduled for next Friday morning was canceled. Interestingly enough, UAB stated in its release that there is a possibility both schools can work with the C-USA office to make up the game at a later date.
"While we are disappointed that we won’t be able to play, we understand and support UAB’s decision to cancel the game," UTEP Director of Athletics Jim Senter said in the Miners official release. "The safety of their student-athletes and staff is the top priority. We wish everyone a quick recovery, and hope the Blazers will be able to resume their season soon."
UAB will not play again until November 27th when they host Southern Miss. Meanwhile, the Miners boarded their charter this afternoon and are heading to San Antonio for a 1 p.m. MT kickoff tomorrow against UTSA. Our coverage starts at noon with the Longhorn Distributing Countdown to kickoff on 600 ESPN El Paso.
There is still a strong possibility that Midland will host UTEP's two December makeup games against Southern Miss (12/4) and North Texas (12/12). Times for those contests have not yet been released.
