Had the Green Bay Packers made it, El Pasoan Aaron Jones would have been representing UTEP. No luck for Aaron but, there are still Miner ties heading for Miami.

Super Bowl 54 will be played in Miami Sunday, February 2nd, between the San Fransisco 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs. Two of the Kansas City Chiefs coaches once coached at UTEP.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid was an assistant coach at UTEP from 1987 - 1988. Chiefs assistant head coach and special teams coordinator Dave Toub played for UTEP from 1983 - 1984. Following a brief NFL career playing for both the Philadelphia Eagles and the Los Angeles Rams, he returned to El Paso and coached at UTEP from 1986 - 1988.

The Chiefs are now off to the Super Bowl for the first time in decades while this will be Reid's first time back since he and the Philadelphia Eagles lost Super Bowl 39 to the New England Patriots in 2005.
