The Knights Trap and Skeet team, based out of Radford School, wrapped up their semester with an end-of-year fun shoot on Saturday, May 17, featuring members from the Eastlake team.

The sport itself has picked up nationwide interest since the Olympics last year, but for Radford School, the sport isn't new. The Knights became the first team across town to feature a shotgun sport.

In Olympic competitions, both trap and skeet are events where athletes fire at moving clay targets. Trap involves shooters firing at targets launched from a single point, while skeet features targets launched from two different points, which cross in front of the shooter.

Led by head coach Julio Cerra, the team includes youth athletes ages 10 to 18 who train and compete in American trap and skeet, sporting clays, and 5-stand disciplines.

The team boasts a standout athlete in 14-year-old Amaris Cerra, who made the Team USA Junior National Team in International Skeet at just 13. She is currently ranked No. 4 in the nation among women under 21 and compete for a spot on the Open Women’s National Team this month. A successful performance could earn her a place at the Pan American Games to represent Team USA this August.

Saturday's event offered an opportunity for members, families and athletes to participate in the year-end shoot at El Paso Skeet and Trap Club.

The Radford team members include Amaris Cerra, Adan Cerra, Mia Burciaga, Noah Landeros, Christian Sandoval, Daniel Sandoval, Andy Nicholson, Carlos Flores, Mino Flores and MariaPaula Tenorio.
