Texans No Longer Welcome In Certain New Mexico Areas

El Paso's neighbor to the north just got some new restrictions and some are aimed directly at us Texans.

If you are planning to visit any of the New Mexico state parks, and you are from Texas, think again. In fact, if you are from anywhere other than New Mexico, think again. A new order released by New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham, forbids entry to New Mexico state parks by any non-New Mexico resident. Proof of residency will be required and overnight camping remains prohibited by anyone.

The Governor also announced other new restrictions for New Mexicans including the banning of "indoor" restaurant dining and brewery seating, as well as limiting outdoor seating to 50% of normal capacity. Contact sports are off and all sports will be canceled if school reopenings don't happen. People exercising outdoors must also now wear masks, even if they are running.

These new orders come as New Mexico sees 238 new cases and six additional deaths in the state, bringing the total cases to 14,251 and total fatalities to 533. Arizona, which borders New Mexico, currently leads the nation in new cases which is another reason for the new rules explained in this quote posted by our news partner, KVIA:

“There has been significant community spread in our state since New Mexico opened more businesses,” explained state Health Secretary Kathy Kunkel, “and that spread has not been sufficiently mitigated with Covid-safe behaviors like face-coverings. Without those behaviors and strategies being uniformly adopted, the best way to reduce transmission is to reduce the opportunity for spread." - KVIA
