Despite a sell out for their home opener, UTEP football is expecting a light crowd tomorrow afternoon at the Sun Bowl when the Miners host FIU on Senior Day.
Dana Dimel's UTEP football team has improved each season, but no game has more importance for his program than tomorrow night's opener against North Texas.
The announced crowd of 6,100 felt more than ten thousand UTEP fans were at the Don Haskins Center rooting on the Miners against UAB last Saturday night.
UTEP is averaging just over 4,000 fans per home game, and the Miners high ticket prices are a big reason why fans are not filling up the Don Haskins Center.
UTEP athletics announced today that four home football games will be 6 p.m. starts, while two in November will be 1 p.m. starts based off over 1,500 surveys from fans.
Although the UTEP football team drew just 12,809 fans the last time the Miners played a home game against North Texas--the lowest since 1993--the football program has already surpassed the total ticket revenue from the 2017 season through only three home games.
