When City Council approved the new $50 million downtown ballpark with a 6-2 vote on June 26th, it seemed like a foregone conclusion that Triple-A baseball was coming to El Paso by 2014. However, with mounting opposition to the ballpark's City Hall location, there is a growing concern that plans to build the new stadium might get scrapped.

When Mayor John Cook spoke publicly to David Crowder from El Paso Inc. about the return of affiliated baseball in El Paso, his comments were not what many expected. Mayor Cook implied that if the new proposed downtown ballpark's Hotel Occupancy Tax funding does not get passed in November, he would veto the entire project.

The future of affiliated baseball and a El Paso downtown ballpark is now in the hands of Minor League baseball. Yesterday in Dallas, Mountain Star Sports Group presented to the Pacific League their plan to bring Triple A baseball to El Paso.

Now that the city council has passed a proposal to build a downtown ballpark, a lot of people are wondering, 'who will pay for what?'

If Triple-A baseball comes to El Paso, a new downtown ballpark will need to be constructed to house the team by as early as 2014. Tomorrow's City Council meeting will help determine whether or not that will happen.

Yesterday was a huge day for El Paso. Once the city council posted Tuesday's agenda on its website, the city was buzzing over the news that the council will vote on a proposal to build a downtown ballpark.
