Let the Good Times Roll: New Skating Rink Opens in Northwest El Paso
Hey, El Paso rink-rats, are you ready to lace up and bounce, rock, skate, roll?
There’s a new roller-skating venue in town where you can hit the hardwood backwards around the rink for a few songs, zip and spin like an Olympic skater, or hug the half-wall for dear life while you struggle to stay upright.
It’s called Skate, Rattle & Roll, and the new rink is (finally) open at the Outlet Shoppes at El Paso. It took much longer than anticipated to open because, according to David Gest, The Outlet Shoppes at El Paso Marketing Coordinator, "they've had to hold off while they resolved air conditioning issues.”
Old School Roller Skaters Super-Exicited
When we gave El Pasoans a sneak peak of the skating rink under construction in August, there was a lot of excitement from nostalgic skaters who recalled the bygone days of “fast skates” and “all-skates” and good times had on wheeled feet at one of the numerous roller-skating rinks that used to exist back in the day.
Skating has long been a favorite El Paso past-time. There was a time in the 80s when El Paso was home to several skating rinks such as The Time Tunnel and Wheels Plus, but Roller King on Pellicano was the place to to meet up with friends, show off your backwards skating skills, and couples' slow-skate with whomever you were crushing on.
Roller King closed in 2008 after 25 years. One year later, in 2009, Roller Bomb opened on the Far East side and it's been the only roller-skating rink in town until now.
What to Know If You Plan to Roll
Skate, Rattle & Roll is located next to Johnston & Murphy across from Ann Taylor in The Outlet Shoppes at El Paso. Cost is $12.50 plus tax for unlimited skating and use of their skates.
Or you can bring your own quads or in-line skates, and if they pass inspection, it's 10 bucks for unlimited skating. Rink hours are:
Monday through Thursday: 12 p.m. - 8 p.m.
Friday and Saturday: 11 a.m.- 11 p.m.
Sunday: 11 a.m. - 8 p.m.
