This is something every parent needs to know: don't buy your kids blue bathing suits. Whether you live in Dallas, TX, Houston, TX, or anywhere around the world, opting for a brightly colored swimming suit could save your kid's life.

If you hadn't thought about it before this will simultaneously blow your mind and seem painfully obvious. A swimming teacher / mom / TikToker in Florida posted a video and it's racking up millions of views. In it she and her daughter demonstrate just how potentially dangerous a blue bathing suit can be.

In Texas, in 2022 there were at least 76 fatal child drownings. It is estimated that there are 8 times more non-fatal drownings than fatal drownings for children ages 1-15. - The Texas Department of Family & Protective Services

Mom, Nikki Scarnati, clarifies that she bought this blue suit for her daughter solely to make this video. And if you watch it, it perfectly demonstrates how these suits are basically camouflage in a pool. You can see it below, her daughter's light blue suit makes her nearly invisible under the water.

Now, imagine trying to find a kid, in a suit this color, heaven forbid at the bottom of a pool, with several kids splashing around. I've been swimming my entire life, but this is the first time this has ever been pointed out to me. Check out the comments section, you'll find several lifeguards agree with her. My mind is blown.

@springhill.isr Just dont do it! Why think about which bathing suits for the splash pad? Just buy bright ones!! ☀️☀️ #selfrescue #selfrescueswimming #selfrescueswim #watersafety #drowningpreventionawareness #springhillisd ♬ original sound - Spring Hill ISR Nikki Scarnati

After seeing this my family is steering clear of light blues, blues and pastel suits, and opting for brighter colors like orange or red. At the risk of sounding dramatic, being able to spot your child just a second sooner could mean the difference of life or death.

Thank you, Nikki, for this!
