NM State Sees More Cases of COVID-19 Within Athletic Department
The NM State athletic department continues to see more positive cases of COVID-19 pop up internally, as the university announced 20 additional cases on Tuesday.
As a result of the positive tests, the athletic department will continue to suspend all summer workouts on campus. The suspension first went in place after six students and one strength and conditioning coach tested positive for the virus last week.
The university administered 162 COVID-19 tests with 135 returning negative, 20 testing positive and seven tests pending results. Per the university, the positive tests affect multiple sports teams at the university.
Medical officials and administrators will continue to monitor the situation and announce the resumption of sports activities once they are able to do so.
The NMSU football team is scheduled to kick off its season on Aug. 29 against UCLA.
