The San Diego Padres announced their 2021 Opening Day roster for the El Paso Chihuahuas, and top pitching prospect MacKenzie Gore (#1 Padres prospect from MLB.com) along with catching prospect Luis Campusano (#3) will headline the list. Tucupita Marcano (#6), Mason Thompson (#11), and Steven Wilson (#17) round out the five prospects all ranked in San Diego's Top 20 from MLB.com.

"Baseball is back in the Sun City and we are excited to have this group of players in Chihuahuas uniforms to start the 2021 season!" said Chihuahuas Senior Vice President and General Manager Brad Taylor in the official team release.

Campusano spent the first month of the season in San Diego while starting catcher Austin Nola recovered from an injury. He had just three hits in 34 at bats and he will now get regular playing time in El Paso to continue his development. Marcano also played 10 games with the Padres last month, with most of his at bats coming off the bench.

The roster will also feature plenty of familiar faces. Patrick Kivlehan, Brett Kennedy, Kyle McGrath all played big roles for the Chihuahuas in past seasons. Kivelhan spent parts of three years in the major leagues with the Padres, Cincinnati Reds and Arizona Diamondbacks. Kennedy pitched for San Diego in six games during the 2018 season while McGrath spent parts of two seasons with the Padres and 2016-19 with El Paso. Michael Cantu and Evan Miller also spent time with the Chihuahuas and both return for this season.

The Chihuahuas will begin their 2021 campaign this Thursday in Tacoma and they will return to Southwest University Park on May 13th against Albuquerque. Tim Hagerty will return to the broadcast booth to call all of the action on 600 ESPN El Paso.
