KISS-FM’s Iris Lopez Took Time To Enjoy The View In The Bahamas And Here’s How It Went
Well, all good things must come to an end and my time in the beautiful Bahamas has come to an end, but it was a great end!
So, in case you have no idea what I’m talking about let me refresh your memory. To celebrate their 25th anniversary, the daytime talk show, The View, chose a few “Super Fans” to surprise them with a free trip to the Bahamas.
Me and my parents were chosen as one of The Views Super Fans and we were in shock when my fave guest co-host, Ana Navarro, showed up on the screen to tell us that we were going to the Bahamas for a live taping of the show!
Well, this past weekend we made our way out to the beautiful Bahamas for a trip that I am sure, myself, my parents, and my son will never forget! There were so many amazing moments but here are a few highlights from my trip to the beautiful Bahamas.
1. I Took A Risk On A Water Slide:
Our trip included a 4-day stay at the beautiful Baha Mar resort which is located right near the beach.
The restaurants were beautiful, the food was delicious, the staff was the friendliest, and I made sure to donate some money to the beautiful casino as well. (I only gambled $20 so I didn’t lose too much on the slot machines.)
But it was the resort's water park that I enjoyed the most, mainly because I was able to be a big kid with my dad and son while my mom snapped photos of us running around like children!
I am not that great of a swimmer and water slides freak me out! But that didn’t stop my son from encouraging me to get on ALL the water slides, including the ones that make your heart jump out of your body!
I survived these scary slides and my son now thinks I’m pretty tough. Win/win.
The People and The Culture of The Bahamas:
The second my son and I landed in the Bahamas we were greeted by a gentleman who was holding a sign that said: “Welcome, Iris Lopez and Mario Muniz.”
He then walked us through the airport to ensure we got to our shuttle safely and our shuttle driver was the sweetest!
He recommended the top two things I needed to try while in the Bahamas: Conk salad and Sky Juice. So I did try them both and I was not disappointed!
Me and my family were able to escape the resort for a day and we experienced a little bit of Bahamian culture when we made our way to the Fish Fry which is home to local restaurants and little souvenir stands.
Goldie's is a Bahamian favorite and we were able to sit by the water and watch them collect the Conk shells and see our food get prepared in real-time.
The View, Duh! Both The Show AND the actual view:
So, although this trip was a nice little vacation there was also work to be done when it came to taping the live and pre-recorded shows.
COVID tests were needed before we could attend a show and meet the hosts. Shows were recorded outside so we had to prepare for the heat and sit outside for about an hour to two hours.
It was definitely hot and humid, but the second the hosts walked out you forgot about all of that and enjoyed seeing what goes on behind a live TV talk show.
What made our experience at these live taping so enjoyable was the people who work behind the scenes. We had producers who made sure we felt comfortable. They made sure we were having fun and that we were taken care of. It’s the behind the scenes people that truly are the real MVP’s!
We were able to snap a group photo with all of the hosts.
I showed off my dance moves during Neyo's grand finale performance.
And I was able to meet my favorite co-host, Ana Navarro. I handed her a card with a special message inside and of course some Mija stickers.
My parents were excited to meet their favorite host and so was I. Whoopi Goldberg is a kind human who did not hesitate to snap a photo with us. But the best part was when she stopped to look at me and tell me, “You know, I really like what you’re doing for women. Keep it up.”
BRB LIFE MADE!!!!
My son wasn’t able to meet Whoopi when we did and he was pretty bummed about it, but later that evening we ran into her inside of the resort Casino and she did not hesitate to snap a photo with him. Look at that smile. Safe to say, I got major mom points for this photo!
I Paused and Enjoyed Life With The People I Love The Most, My Family:
My parents have always been my biggest cheerleaders and I’ve always wanted to pay them back but have never had the funds to give them a glamorous trip like this one.
Seeing the smiles on my parent's faces and my son's face was ultimately the best part of this trip.
We laughed, bickered over directions, guessed how much the tab was for each restaurant and we made memories together.
It’s a known fact amongst my family and closest friends that I work a lot. I am a workaholic and at times, it burns me out to the point where I am in tears, but I am the type of person that does not know when to stop. I’m a single mom who needs to provide for her son so in my mind, working nonstop is the only way to go.
However, this trip made me realize a lot more than I think I bargained for.
I like to think that the moral of this whole trip was to remind myself to take a little time to literally enjoy the view. Life is short, enjoy the now and worry about the future later. 🏝
