The month of March is all about Women’s History and El Paso, Texas based nonprofit, Mija, Yes You Can, will be wrapping up the month with a celebration for women owned businesses in our community at their 4th annual “Mija Market.”

The community is invited to join the Mijas as they celebrate their 4 year anniversary with cake, music, raffles, shopping, and more!

For the third year in a row, the Mija Market will take place outside the local and women-owned business Chuco Relic located at 3750 Gateway Blvd East.

The original market date was set for Sunday, March 24 from 11am to 4pm but due to high wind warnings, event organizers decided to re-schedule the market for Cinco De Mayo!

"Due to the unfavorable weather conditions expected this Sunday, with wind gusts expected to reach 50 MPH and cooler temperatures, our team of Mija's have made the decision to reschedule our Mija Market,” said event officials. "Safety comes first and We believe this will ensure the safety and comfort of both our vendors and attendees."

Although the market won’t be happening this weekend, the community is invited to celebrate the release of a Mija Beer, in partnership with local brewery, Old Sheepdog Brewery.

The beer release will also serve as a fundraising event for the organization and guests will also be able to purchase a limited edition “Mija, yes you can adopt a shelter pet” T-shirt which will benefit “A home to bark and purr.”

The event is one of the largest markets in the city that features all women-owned businesses as vendors. It is free and open to the public.

“Our organization has gone through so many changes in the last few years but one thing that remains consistent is the love and support we receive from the community,” said event organizers. “So this market is not only a celebration for us, but for our community as well.”

Guests will be able to enjoy over 30 women-owned businesses that will set up shop with products ranging from candles, jewelry, workout gear, pet accessories, and more.

Guests can sign up for the Mija raffle which will take place every 20 minutes. No purchase is necessary to enter the raffle but winners must be present to accept their prize.

Food truck vendors will also be onsite, and the ‘Mijas’ will have their Mija pop-up for community members to collect new Mija gear.

This year’s market will serve as the main fundraiser for the organization with all proceeds going directly back to the organization to help them fund their scholarships program.

“Education is one of our key pillars as an organization,” said organization officials. “We have relied on grants to support our scholarship program in the past but we are hoping to create more scholarships with funding of our own.”

Past Mija Market’s have also served as a way for the organization to support other nonprofit organizations as part of their philanthropy pillar.

Past partnerships include The Center against sexual and family violence, and just last year the organization collected feminine hygiene products for “Her Pantry.”
