That Little Old Band From Texas Is Headed Back To El Paso

That little 'ol band from Texas is coming back to El Paso in April, bringing their country, blues, southern-tinged rock -- and a dash of Texas swagger to "top" it off -- to the Sun City.

ZZ Top are no strangers to El Paso and they have got zillions of fans all over the Borderland. Their biggest show here was when we saw them rock the UTEP Sun Bowl in 2017 with Guns 'N Roses.

This time around, THEY are the headliners as they bring their "Elevation" tour -- along with a new bassist -- to the Abraham Chavez Theater on April 22nd. Get your tickets here.

Why Is ZZ Top Bringing A New Bass Player To El Paso?

ZZ Top has been the same 3 guys since they formed in 1969. Sadly, that changed in 2021 with the death of bassist Dusty Hill. Shortly before he died, Dusty had a heart-to-heart with his cohorts, urged them to go on without him, and named his replacement.

Who Is ZZ Top's New Bassist?

Elwood Francis is a well-known guitarist and guitar tech who has worked for a number of big name bands/guitarists while also doing about 30 years with ZZ Top. Following Dusty's death, he was "promoted" by the band. Again, at Dusty's insistence.

Elwood is also the guitarist for his own band, a punk rock outfit called The Mighty Skullhead.

Thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, Elwood has a full-on, ZZ Top-style beard going so, he'll totally blend when they get here in April. I SO hope he brings that monster 17-string bass with him ...
